At the Threshold of the Fiery Gehenna

In the book “At the Threshold of the Fiery Gehenna,” Bishop Alexander (Mileant) sets forth the Orthodox teaching on the fallen angels, evil spirits, and their influence on human beings. Drawing on Holy Scripture, the author examines the origin of demons, the ways in which they act upon the human soul, and the nature of temptations, demonic possession, and obsession. Particular attention is given to the dangers of occultism, magic, and other spiritual practices capable of leading a person away from God. The book also describes the means of spiritual protection – prayer, faith, repentance, and the Christian life – and warns against a presumptuous attitude toward spiritual warfare. The work concludes with an exposition of the Orthodox understanding of the final defeat of Satan and the triumph of Christ over the powers of evil.
