Prayer Book
The “Prayer Book” is a collection of the principal Orthodox prayers, canons, and orders of service for prayer at home. The book contains the opening prayers, morning and evening prayers, the Order of Preparation for Holy Communion and the prayers of thanksgiving after Communion, as well as penitential, supplicatory, and thanksgiving canons. Also included are the canon and akathist to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, the canons to the Guardian Angel and to the Precious and Life-Giving Cross, the canon for the sick, the Hours of Holy Pascha, the orders of the litia served by a layman, the Order of the Twelve Psalms, and the Rule for Defilement. The prayer book is intended for Orthodox Christians who wish to have at hand the essential prayer rules and the most commonly used orders of service for daily spiritual life, preparation for Holy Communion, prayer in illness, repentance, thanksgiving, and the commemoration of the living and the departed.
